Ahoy and Welcome!
We wish you a great weekend with fair weather…. And lots of fun

 

As part of our traditional America's Cup Regatta, boats are encouraged to fly a country flag. and for the crew to dress up appropriate to the selected country. Prizes will be aarded to the best dressed prior to the start of Race 1. If you do not have a flag, the EYC have the following national flags available and will be given on a first to register basis: Australia, USA, England , Holland,, Switzerland, Ireland, New Zealand,, Poland, Trinidad, Irian Jaya, Thailand, Iceland.

Registration: from Fri Feb 27th @ 6 pm with Bar & BBQ at the EYC
Races 1 - 3:   Sat Feb 28th Races start @ 11 am
Race Party with band and tucker 6-10 pm
Races 4 & 5    Sun March 1st starting @ 11 am
Awards & celebration Sunday 5-9 pm

Complementary breakfast will be provided on Sat and Sun morning with lunch and dinner and bar facilities offered.
Free camping available onsite at the EYC

Please note: strictly no alcohol to be consumed on the premises of the Exmouth Yacht Club unless purchsed at the EYC Bar.
Bar opening times will be 6 pm - late on Friday 27, 4 pm - late Saturday 27 and Sunday 28.

For those intending to camp at the EYC:
Conditions are not flash but there are hot showers and two toilet blocks. There is also an outside cold shower.
Kitchen facilities are available but breakfast, luch and dinner will be catered for. Hot tea and coffee will be freely available throughout the weekend.
For those arriving Friday, an EYC club member will be onsite to assist in settling in from 2 pm but registration will not be open till 6 pm.

Late registrations will try to be accepted during the weekend. All registrations will close strictly 1 hour before each race.

Detailed Program:

Friday  .......2 pm – grounds open for campers to set up.
            ...........6 pm bar and registration open. BBQ packs available.
Saturday ...8.30 - 9.30 am breakfast set up (people to help themselves). Skipper paid in registration fee, others pay $5.00.
               ........10 am registration for first race closes, briefing commences, country flags drawn out.
              ........ 11 am – first of three races. Lunch available to purchase
              ........ 2 pm bar opens; meals and music from 6 pm- 10 pm
              ......... Announcement of race winners for races 1,2 and 3
Sunday...... 8.30 - 9.30 am breakfast as for Saturday
 .....................10 am briefing commences
            ......... 11 am –races 4 & 5, Lunch available to purchase
             .........2 pm bar opens; meals available from 5 pm
             .........5 pm announcement of race winners and prizes awarded

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Course: Five Races held over the two days with results collated to create an overall winner.
The course for each division will be displayed on the white board at the clubhouse 1 hour before the 1st warning signal.

Changes to sailing instructions and notices to competitors: These shall be posted on the official notice board at the clubhouse 1 hour before the 1st warning signal.

Entries: All classes of yacht are eligible to enter this regatta. Eligible yachts shall register by lodging a completed nomination form attached (or at the club).
Sign on – Sign off: All skippers shall sign the sign on /sign off sheet at the timekeeper’s tent before and after each race, stating clearly the total number of crew, including skipper, taking part in the race.

Rules: The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (2005-2008), prescriptions and safety regulations of Australian Yachting Federation (except as amended by  the following sailing instructions as set out below.

Divisions:
A – Keel Yachts & Trailer Sailers with a VYC< 115 (Mono & Multi)
B  –Keel Yachts & Trailer Sailers with a VYC>115 (Mono & Multi)
C Off the Beach Catamarans
D Off the Beach Mono (Dinghy)
A minimum of 3 yachts shall constitute a division. Changes are at the race committee’s discretion.

Start Procedure:
5 minutes              Blue Peter raised and Gun
3 minutes              3 red flags raised
2 minutes              1st red flag lowered
1 minute                2nd red flag lowered
START                  3rd red flag lowered Gun
The start signal for the first division is the preparatory (5 minute) signal for the next division and so on. A 10 minute siren will initiate starting procedure.

Retirement: Retirement must be reported to the timekeeper as soon as practicable and the skipper must sign off.

Protest: There will be no protests.
Safety Equipment: C & D division skippers and crew shall wear a personal flotatuion device to Australian Standard AS1512, AS2260 or AS1499. A & B division keel yachts & trailer sailers must comply with the requirements of the Department of Transport regulations and the AYF. ( Category 6 Fundamental Rules for safety equipment carried on board).

All those taking part, do so at their own risk and responsibility. EYC is not responsible for the seaworthiness of a yacht whose entry is accepted, or to the adequacy of its equipment.

Scoring:THIS IS A YARDSTICK EVENT.
Each class has been allocated a provisional yardstick rating, which will be used to adjust the sailing time.  The finishing position in each division will be in order of corrected times.  Classes and provisional yardsticks are tabulated on the following page and are subject to change.

Entry Fees:Entry Fee is $50.00.  All entrants must complete an official entry form before racing. Entries close at 20:00 hours on FRIDAY 27 FEBRUARY 2009; however entries received by the Sunday  before the event will greatly assist with administration. Payment can be made in person at the registration table from Friday 27 Feb, or direct deposit to: Westtpac Bank: BSB 036180, account 360656, account name: Exmouth Yacht Club. Please put your surname in the reference box with the acronym ACR (for America's Cup Regatta).

The following provisional yardsticks will be used to establish corrected finishing times.
Note: the Race Committee reserves the right to adjust the yardsticks prior to commencement of racing and will post a notice at EYC race headquarters.

 A few words on the yardstick and handicapping system adopted by the Exmouth Yacht Club

The Yardstick is a constant applied to each race time based on class of boat. These values have been published by the South Australian Yachting Association. They are designed to make it fairer for different classes of boat to race against each other. For instance, an inherently faster boat like the Nacra 5.2m will have a higher yardstick than the slower Windrush 14. All yardstick values have also been normalised to the Windrush 14 which gets a Yardstick value of exactly 1 for comparison purposes.
